MEDIA GUIDELINES

Please review the guidelines below before planning your visit or requesting information.

Media Contact Information

For media inquiries, please reach out to the designated media relations contact.

General Guidelines

  • Scheduling: All media visits should be scheduled in advance with a media relations representative.
  • Respect for Privacy: Media is asked to respect the privacy of patients, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Consent: Filming or interviewing patients without their explicit written consent is strictly prohibited due to HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, which protects patients’ privacy. For patient interviews, a signed consent form is required. The UHealth/Miller School Media Relations team will obtain written consent from the patient before any interview or recording starts.

On-Campus Filming and Photography

  • Permissions: Any filming and photography on campus requires prior approval. Please contact a member of the Media Relations team to arrange a visit to any of our facilities.
  • Restricted Areas: You may not be permitted to access certain areas of the campus, such as research facilities and clinical rooms without special permission. Check with appropriate media contact, in our homepage.
  • Drones: The use of drones for filming or photography requires special approval and must comply with FAA regulations as the main UHealth/Miller School campus is under a flight path.

Interviews and Statements

  • Official Statements: Only designated university spokespeople are authorized to provide official statements. Contact the Media Relations team to arrange interviews.
  • Interviews: Please work with the appropriate media relations contact who will identify the proper faculty and staff to speak to media based on the area of expertise needed.

Events Coverage

  • Event Access: Media access to medical campus events must be coordinated through Media Relations. Press passes may be issued for major events and news conferences.
  • Live Broadcasts: Live broadcasts require prior coordination and approved locations for live shots or live stand ups. Please contact the Media Relations team for technical and logistical arrangements.

Parking and Logistics

  • Parking: Limited parking is available throughout the health district. Metered street parking can be found around the campus, with parking garages are also available. Media Relations can best direct you based on where you will be filming.

Code of Conduct

  • Professionalism: Media representatives are expected to conduct themselves professionally and courteously at all times. Please be respectful of patients and their families at all times.

Emergency Situations

  • Crisis Communication: In the event of an emergency, all media inquiries are directed to the UHealth/Miller School Media Relations team. Reporters should not attempt to visit the campus unannounced to ensure there is no interference with a real emergency. Regular updates will be provided through official channels, including our social media channels and our websites.

For further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the Media Relations team. We look forward to working with you.
